Many volunteers are going to be needed in the weeks and months to come as we move into full-on recovery mode. There are many people across the state that want to help neighbors recover from this disaster.
The best thing to do for now is to call 2-1-1 (or 970-407-7066 on a cell phone) to register as a volunteer in Larimer County. You can also register online as a volunteer with www.HelpColoradoNow.org. Local nonprofits utilize those databases to contact volunteers for clean-up efforts.
Currently, clean-up volunteers are not being deployed until the official clearance is given from the Emergency Operations Center. Currently, the county is still in active rescue mode.
"It’s a public safety issue to have volunteer groups out there doing clean-up work that’s not coordinated with the EOC," said Kate Hagdorn, Vice President of Marketing and Communications with the United Way of Larimer County. "I know everyone is chomping at the bit to get out there and help, but it’s just too soon."
Hagdorn added that the United Way anticipates getting official clearance to deploy volunteer groups for clean-up efforts next week, though that is not confirmed.
